Maxxis’ all-new Maxxcross MX-ST tyre got off to a winning start at the first round of the European Motocross 250 championship, with Maddii Racing’s Alberto Forato winning both motos and taking the overall victory onboard his Maxxis-shod Husqvarna at Matterley Basin on Sunday. 2019 marks the first year of competition for the new motocross tyre from Maxxis – which was developed with the help and expertise of seven-time AMA Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath – and in its first competitive outing in the hotly-contested EMX250 championship it allowed Forato to take two convincing wins and get his campaign off to a perfect start, the Italian youngster winning by nearly 10-seconds in both races. It also helped power Andrea Gorini to an overall podium in the EMX2T two-stroke series, as he finished third on his Mandrile Racing Yamaha.
Derek McMartin, Maxxis International managing director, said, “We couldn’t have really asked for a better start to the 2019 campaign. We know that the work, effort, and development that has gone into the new MX-ST gives it a performance edge over its rivals, and that is already starting to show with these results. The EMX250 championship is a hotbed of talent and the breeding ground for future stars in MX2 and MXGP, and we’re confident this is the first of many wins, and that we will help power the next lot of champions in world motocross racing.
“Matterley Basin was also the first European round of the MXGP and MX2 championships, and as the title sponsor it was great to see our fully-equipped, race support service in action in the paddock for the first time.”
